The 7-7 is a weak starting hand. You should split against all dealer up-cards of 2 through 7. Even if you split, your expectation is a loss in most cases in the long run. Imagine if you got two hands of 17, you can only win if the dealer busts. Splitting is in most cases a loss-reducing Basic Strategy play. You are worse if you did not split, because then you would have 14 as a starting hand.

Common Loser Mistakes:

  • Standing on 7-7 against dealer stiff up-cards.
  • Splitting 7-7 against dealer 8 or higher.

Did You Know..?

  • 7-7 against dealer’s up-card 2 or 3 is a long-run losing hand even when played properly by splitting? Further reinforcement that 2 or 3 is a deadly dealer up-card.
