The reality is 6-6 is a very weak starting hand, and is the worst of all the pairs. If you get 6-6, expect to lose with it in the long run against all dealer up-cards. It is so bad, that only against dealer’s up-cards 5 or 6, and only in casinos that allow doubling down after split (DAS), is there a long-run expected win with 6-6. It is truly “the number of the Beast.”
Common Loser Mistakes:
- Splitting 6-6 vs dealer pat upcards of 7 through A
- Expecting to be a winner splitting 6-6 vs dealer stiff upcards 2,3,4, saying “dealer has a bust card”. The Advantage Player knows splitting must be done, but it is a cost-reducing strategy, not a money-maker.
Did You Know..?
- If you are in a casino that does not allow double after split, when you have 6-6 vs 2 you should just hit rather than split.
